Laurey is a wordsmith with a passion for efficiency and business growth. Here she shares a typical day in her world now she’s a Passionate PA.
Laurey joined The Passionate PA in March 2019 after being made redundant and realising there was a different way to make a living! She chose to become a freelance PA in order to experience the variety and excitement of working with different businesses, and she is already securing her own clients with her copywriting skills. Laurey joins us as the 7th Passionate PA and brings not just her skill set but her infectious positivity and sunny outlook to the team.
Alarm goes off at: 7am but I’m usually already half-awake as my brain seems to wake me at least ten minutes before my alarm goes off. Weird…
Start the day with: Opening the curtains and thinking about what to wear for the day, swiftly followed by a coffee.
Where do you do most of your work? If it’s a day working from home then my kitchen is my workspace – it’s light and airy with caffeine and snacks on tap… if I’m with a client then it’s still usually a light and airy space, just with fewer snacks.
What sectors do your clients operate within: I currently have clients in digital marketing and web design, IT and property management. I’d love a few more too – I’m client hunting! ☺
Best part of your work: Dealing with people and learning new things. I just love people and understanding how they operate their businesses. More importantly, I love to learn how I can best help them and then seeing the results of that teamwork.
Worst part of your work: Ummm, tricky. I’m relatively new at this Passionate PA-ing but, I guess it’s knowing when to close the laptop and rest. I love the work I do for clients and sometimes can be found working at ungodly hours. My excuse is that when the creativity hits, you have to just ride the wave! Right?
Clients you add most value to: I do my best work with ambitious growing businesses that are looking to strengthen their external coms – so any sector, but usually small in terms of number of people within the team – businesses looking for a copywriter that will really get under their skin and portray their business to the outside world as if the MD had written the copy themselves. I love words – I mean REALLY love them!
After work you’ll be: In one of two places: seeing friends/family or in the gym. Oh, or at the laptop still writing one of several half finished books!
Why a franchise with The Passionate PA and not go it alone? Because life on your own is boring; having guidance from someone who has been there and done it makes you the best version of your professional self, much more quickly than if you go it alone. Plus, one coffee with Kate learning about the business and the question suddenly becomes ‘why not a franchise with The Passionate PA?’.
What did you do before: I was a Client Liaison Manager for a wealth management company; before that I was a secondary school English teacher and before that I was a journalist. Life is a rich tapestry and the same coloured thread would make it far less interesting! That’s why I love being a Passionate PA – the variety is great.
Favourite drink: This totally depends on the time of day…☺
Favourite location for a business meeting: Anywhere the potential client feels most comfortable, as long as it’s warm.
What are you reading? The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North but I am a big advocate of Indie Authors on Amazon who haven’t gone down the traditional publishing route or who have yet to reach a wider audience and prove how awesome they are.
Your guilty pleasure: Correcting people’s use of homophones and apostrophes. If that makes me sound extremely dull, then ignore the first part and remember my guilty pleasure as Grey’s Anatomy and jelly beans!
Favourite hobby/past time: Musical theatre; I’m a member of my local amateur dramatics group and can frequently be found in the dancing chorus. After all, there’s no business like showbusiness – except maybe The Passionate PA!
Most inspirational/influential person in your career: I would say that I haven’t been influenced by any one person in particular, but I am forever inspired by those people who have chased a dream or fulfilled an ambition and who have lived their lives according to no-one’s limitations but their own.
Favourite animal and why: Cat. Because it’s a cat.
Greatest contact/supplier that deserves a plug: The wonderfully helpful Tristan at Aspire Insurance. Sorting my business insurance was hardly high on my ‘Excited To Do’ list (yes, there is such a thing when you become a member of #TeamPassioante PA!) but Tristan made the experience so easy and simple.
Your business plan (in one sentence!) for the coming year… To shape a rewarding business for myself, offering my varied skill set to ambitious business owners in and around Nottingham under the awesome Passionate PA brand (and enjoy every minute!).
